What size businesses will qualify for the Main St. Matter Grant Program?

Is the grant program only open to BBB Accredited Businesses?

The grant is open to qualified small businesses that are in good standing with BBB and uphold BBB's Standards for Trust. We will consider a company's history of community involvement, including but not limited to, BBB Member Accreditation. Currently BBB is only accepting grant applications from businesses located in Braintree, Holbrook, Quincy, Randolph, or Stoughton, MA.

What service area must a business reside in to qualify for the grant program?

Grant program award recipients' primary location (headquarters) must be in the BBB service area of Eastern Massachusetts.

Are non-profits, 501(c)3 and 501(c)6 classified businesses eligible for the grant program?

Given the high demand at this time, unfortunately, nonprofit organizations will not be eligible for the BBB Main St. Matters Grant Program.

What are the grant amounts?

At this time, BBB Main St. Matters grant recipients will receive emergency grants (does not need to be paid back) in the form of a $1,000 grant award. We are actively seeking corporate sponsors to allow us to offer more grants in the future. How soon will businesses be awarded the funding?

If your company is selected to receive a BBB Main St. Matters grant, you will receive a notification via email and phone. Once you accept your award, you will receive a check by mail within the month.

Will I receive a notification when my application is received?

Yes, you will receive an automated email upon completion of your application.

If my business is not awarded, can I reapply?

Yes, you are able to reapply monthly for the BBB Main St. Matters grant. If you submit an eligible application and would like for us to reconsider your application on a rolling monthly basis, please indicate that in your application. Please note, businesses who wish to have their application considered on a rolling monthly basis may be subject to updating their application or submitting subsequent business information.

How long will you be accepting applications?

Grant awards will be accepted on a rolling basis over several months based on the availability of funding. In order to keep this momentum going, BBB is seeking additional sponsors to continue with the expected demand of the program. If I don’t hear from you, when should I reach out?

We are doing our best to assist you and your business during this trying time and want you to know that processing your application in a timely manner is a priority. If you have applied and have not received any communication via email after 5 weeks of application submission, please email main-street-matters@boston.bbb.org and indicate your business name and application date in the subject line. (Ex: Pizza Planet July 1st Grant Application Status). Please also be sure to routinely check your spam folder in your email inbox.

How can I get assistance and/or accommodation to complete my grant application?

If I am awarded a grant do I have to claim it on my business tax return?

Prior to receiving a grant the business will have to complete an IRS W-9. The business will be issued an IRS 1099 misc income for 2020, for the full grant amount. Please contact your tax accountant for more information.

How can I become a sponsor?

BBB knows that main street businesses are the backbone of our economy and being able to give back is an honor.
